AfDB to establish resource hub to support Nigeria’s infrastructure plan

Infrastructure spending in Nigeria would grow from $23 billion to $77 billion in 2025.

The African Development Bank, AfDB, says it would set up a Public Private Partnership, PPP, Resource Centre in Abuja in support of government’s efforts to bridge the infrastructure gap in the country.

The AfDB Private Sector Specialist, Emmanuel Akinwunmi, said at the 4th National PPP stakeholders Forum in Abuja on Thursday that the bank would support the drive toward improved infrastructure delivery and a more robust and efficient PPPs.

Mr. Akinwunmi said the bank recently shared ideas with colleagues in South Africa on how it could set up a PPP advisory hub, as there were commendable initiatives in Nigeria at all levels of government to realize that objective.

The resource centre, he said, would provide a forum for the Federal Government, ministries, states and even local governments to interact with the bank and share available resources.

Mr. Akinwunmi said that PPP was a sure way to engage the private sector finances into developmental projects in the country.

According to him, this would bring about cost effectiveness in execution of projects, speedy service delivery, and maintenance in the system, particularly at this time that Nigeria and the African continent were still confronted with huge infrastructure deficit.

“Nigeria’s Integrated Infrastructure Master plan needs about $2.9 trillion over the next 30 years to close the infrastructure gap. This figure is scary, but we will go from one step to the other and bring it down,” Mr. Akinwunmi said.

While commending the Infrastructure Regulatory Concession Commission for organising the forum, he urged participants to make contributions that would be of benefit to both the government and the private sector.

The West Africa Territory Advisory Leader, Price Waterhouse Copper, PWC, Faruok Gumel, said Africa’s infrastructure deficit was estimated at $38 billion per year.
He said that Nigeria, despite being the largest economy in Africa, with GDP of $509.9billion in 2013, was also experiencing huge challenges in the area of infrastructure, with about $630 billion estimated as infrastructure investment requirement for the country for between 2011 and 2020.

“(With) the National Planning Commission’s infrastructure master plan, Nigeria would require $26 billion yearly to deliver pipeline of priority projects in the first five years of the master plan,” Mr. Gumel said.

He said it was expected that the infrastructure spending in Nigeria would grow from $23 billion to $77 billion in 2025, according to the projection in the 2014 study conducted by PWC and Oxford Economics study.

To bridge the prevailing infrastructure gap in the power sector alone, he said an estimated $10 billion investment would be required annually over the next 10 years.
Underlining the need for collaboration with the private sector, Mr. Gumel said government alone would not be able to fund infrastructure development because of the huge amount involved in the process.

Why I'm on the brink of burning my Israeli passport

Why I'm on the brink of burning my Israeli passport

I can no longer stand by while Israeli politicians like Ayelet Shaked condone the deaths of innocent Palestinian women and children

She is young. She is also an Israeli Parliamentarian-and the reason why I am on the brink of burning my Israeli passport. Because behind that wide-eyed innocent face lurks the Angel of Death.

A week earlier, just before 17-year-old Mohammed Abu Khudair was snatched and burned alive, Shaked wrote: This is not a war against terror, and not a war against extremists, and not even a war against the Palestinian Authority.

So even before the boy died horribly she declared him to be the enemy, and afterwards, without any apparent hint of guilt or remorse, she was calling for the deaths of innocent women and their unborn babies. But the fact remains that it is Israel which has the tanks, bombers, artillery, nuclear warheads and missile defences of Goliath, while ordinary Gazans had nothing a week ago and even less today, as even hospitals and schools were bombed.

In Israel, in spite of Hamas’s best efforts, not one death has been recorded, nor any serious injuries, although a wedding party was disrupted and got on the television news.

And, as the bombs rain on Gaza, Israeli teens have taken to tweeting scantily-clad selfies alongside their political sentiments. In two now deleted tweets, one wrote Death to all of you Arabs you transfag, while another proclaimed Arabs may you be paralyzed & die with great suffering! Another teen simply tweeted Death to these f****** Arabs, and attached a photo of themselves pouting alongside it.

23 year old student commits suicide after girlfriend betrayed him

23 year old student of Maritime Academy Oron, named Effiong Otu, (pictured above) hung himself with a rope in his home in Calabar on Thursday July 10th after a girl jilted him.

According to his friend, Effiong got involved with the girl early this year and fell madly in love with her. On Wednesday Effiong called him to tell him the girl had broken up with him for no reason and has refused to pick his calls. The friend advised him to try and see the girl so they could sort things out. He said Effiong called him on Thursday morning to say he had gone to see the girl and she embarrassed him and asked him to leave her alone. The friend said he promised Effiong he would call and speak with the girl but Effiong told him not to bother that he had given up hope.

That same day, a few hours after Effiong and his family celebrated his father's 10th year death anniversary, Effiong called another friend of his to tell him to tell the girl to be happy with herself as he plans to kill himself because of her. He then went to a neighbours house to borrow a rope, locked himself in his mother's house and hung himself from the ceiling of the house.

His friends thought he was joking about killing himself until they heard the news of his suicide. He was buried the next day.
